Power Points

Have you ever thought about the power of the Power Point?
It is a handy tool for telling a story
or
for a major point that you would like to share with the world.
Well that is one of the units that we are learning this term.
I must say that it is a fun way to pass the time.
I like to create things and making a power point certainly makes you think about being creative.
My  first Power point is a  reflection of my blogg, going back to school after a very long time.
Coming up with ideas for my other ones is going to need a little thought

Holidays are Finished

Well the holidays are over its time to get back to the grind stone
This week was a little slow, we only had 4 of us students in most of the classes. everyone mustn't have realised we were due back as the kids did not go back to school until Thursday.
Life is hectic as per usual, a little too hectic sometimes, lots to do.
This term sees a few changes with some different units and lectures,
OHS, Power point, Working in a team environment and implement work practises, with Myob and word continuing for the rest of the term.

Team Work

For last two weeks we have been working in a group, on a project that we all agreed on.
In my group there was Sandra, Ruth, Nico and myself, we decided to do our subject on
Social Networking - A Guide for Parents
which we did in a Power Point Presentation.
Our team worked really well together, we all contributed to the task and listened to each others ideas.
I think that we all did an excellent job, it was a nice finish to the end of this unit Communicating Electronically.
There is only one day left to this term, I can tell you that it has flown by so quickly.
I have enjoyed this term, even with the challenges of getting all the assessments done and then handed in. Its great to get our work back and know that you have done a good job and it is something to be proud of.
Yes my typing is improving, I am a little bit quicker with fewer mistakes.

Are YOU Employable ?

This is the question, that we all do not like to ask ourselves.
Some of the points that make us employable are:
  • Communication- Are we able to communicate affectively?
  • Teamwork- Can we work in or with a team?
  • Problem Solving - Are we able to solve problems that may arise?
  • Initiative and Enterprise
  • Planning and Organising
  • Self Management
  • Learning
  • Technology
Well what do you think?
Are you employable?
I would like to think that I have some of the qualities that are required, but I suppose it is always up to the individual employer to what they are chasing in a employee.

 Assessments

Assessments are being handed in to the Lecturers
and
they are also being handed back by the Lecturers

My Customer Service Assessments I handed in to Kate, have been returned, some good comments and a couple of spelling and grammer mistakes.
I need to get someone else to proof read my work, you do not realise that you skim over mistakes in your work when you read it yourself

I'm learning new things as I go along, it is great.
I didn't realise that if you are going to publish a book, it can only be in certain fonts.

I have emailed all my assessment for Communicate Electronocally to Donna and have handed in my assessment for Organise Personal Work Priorities.

I have also handed in practice assessment Williams Gibbs for Write Simple Doc's, still have 2 large assessments due in for this class, not sure on the final dates still.

Only two more assessments to do for both spreadsheets and Word Processing and that is it for those two.

The term has certainly flown by only two and a half weeks to go, then it is on to a whole new set of subjects.

School holidays are on the way,
I am going to celebrate by getting some well earned sleep.
no
staying up late to do homework over the holidays.

TIME IS FLYING BY

Time flies by when you are busy...
The last couple of weeks have been a flurry of activity,
with assessments being finished off and handed in.
This week has been a bit of challenge trying to catch up with some classes.
I had a couple of days off due to a family emergency in the city, having to say goodbye to a family member who is dying of cancer is not the easiest thing to do. Its hard living away from the ones you love but for our children's sake, I think its the best choice not to live in the city.
( I hate going to the city for a couple of days let alone live there)
I have come back with a sense of understanding on the meaning of 'Enjoying the time we do have and making every bit count'.
I have learnt so much over the last 6 weeks,
I'll quote what Ashleigh has already said
 "I feel like a sponge"
I find myself listening more carefully to all information, whether it is in class or the real world.
I feel I have more confidence in my abilities to do the tasks set forward in class and in life.

Three more weeks then a well earned break.
yes
I will most probably still study
now I'm starting to sound like a bit of a GEEK.
I have to say that
'School is a much better experience
 the second time around'.

TIME ORGANISATION

At this stage in my life planning for the future is very important, but with saying that I have always been a planner

Yes I  write lists all the time

I find it a handy way to organise my time and everyone else in my household.
It helps to jog my memory, so I don't forget to do the stuff I need to do.I also write them out for other family members so that I not constantly reminding everyone of the stuff that they need to do.
I find that I prioritise quite well, if I know what is needed ahead of time as this allows me to set goals on what needs to be done and when.

Yes I am a bit of a organise freak,

I like to know where I am and what needs to be done

I already have a 5 year plan, which has only 18 months left to go, This was a 3 year plan that had to be readjusted because of unforeseen circumstances.
This plan has given my husband and I a goal to strive for.

So
I suppose now is a good a time as any to start a new 5 year plan for my career anyway.

 Wednesday
I must admit it is not my favourite day of the week
I'm sure that it is not a favourite day for alot of people too.
I'm just finding in general Wednesday's to be a full on day, alot to learn, not enough time and then I tent to have lots of homework.

The afternoon seems to just drag on forever, maybe it's because I don't really enjoy the class
 Write Simple Doc's.
Alot of writing,
I suppose you get so used to working on a computer these days, and to pick up a pen for long periods of time can really hurt your hand, I use alot of white out and erasers.
The other thing I don't like about that class is the spelling and theusaurus tests.
My other classes are moving along quite smoothly, I'm ahead in  Design and Produce text Doc's( I really enjoy this class as I feel like I have learnt alot. and  I'm getting the hang of MYOB,
I've just finished and printed out assessment1 for Customer service which I anm quite proud of.
Excel is teaching me so much I am starting to implement what I am learning into my own business and paperwork, which should in turn save me some time.

I am finding that I am spending alot of time on my assessments and portfolios and I dont really have much time for anything else at the moment. Talking to others in my classes, it sounds like I'm not the only one.

On the bright side my typing is getting faster

Emails

Who would have thought that there were so many things to know about emailing!
"Did you know that there is Email etiquette?"
If you look it up the Internet it comes up with
101 things
you should know about email etiquette.
Well that's what we learnt today along with how to convert a document into a PDF file.
I also learnt how to spell
ETIQUETTE.
In the many years that I have been using the Internet and emailing I have come to realised that, some of my emails may not have looked too crash hot.
I'm sure I have used the wrong tone, letter format , and yes I am guilty of using all capitals not realising that meant you are yelling at someone.
Soooo Sorry.
After today I am more aware of how a email can be interpreted by someone else.

FIRST ASSESSMENT

My first assessment is in
Yay..
I hope I did O.K

The next two are due in on Thursday, they are all ready to go.
Yes I have been doing some extra studying to get ahead as I am a slow typer compared to almost everyone else in my class.
Trying to practise that as much as I can,
have you ever noticed that your mind seems to go quicker than your fingers sometimes when you type or write, it's quite baffling when you look back at what you have written then go " what the hell was that meant to say,"
I laugh at myself alot I'm sure that Nico thinks I'm going mad sometimes.( I sit next to Nico in some of my computer classes)

I'm Starting to settle in and feel a bit more comfortable with all this school stuff
I might actually go as far as saying I am enjoying the challenge.
Yes I think that's how I am going to look at it form now on
My new challenge to soak up every bit of information and turn it into something to be very proud of.

Multi Tasking

Well here I am again sitting in front of the computer on a beautiful day, arguing with myself about what to throw myself into first, do I start my many pages of home work
  or
do I do some housework.

As you can see I am trying to multi task, as you would know as I woman I can do this quite well.
( I can hear my Husband chuckling as he reads that) because he knows me very very well and knows that I DO NOT sit still for very long, I think he wonders how  on earth do I manage to sit for so long to do my courses.

What is multi-task
Definitions :
Multi - something that has many parts or aspects ( yes that is definitely my life )
Task - any piece of work that has to be done ie: chore, duty, job.( Yes I have many of them in my life too)
So how to prioritise because there are many facets of being a wife, mum, daughter, friend, business owner, student and let us not forget being ourselves.
If you read magazines they say that you should put yourself first,
  OK
I will wash the clothes ( so I don't smell, no body likes a stinky person)
While the washing is going I will fit in some homework, while thinking about what we will have for tea. I will hang out the washing and think about  how I'm going to set out the spread sheet's that are due in by next week. I will pick up the kids, and work out how I'm going to fit martial arts training in, for the next 6 months with my homework. Take my son to swimming, check out the customer service for survey. Go shopping and another entry for the customer service survey.
Gee it is amazing how much you can fit into your day.

Thought for you all
CHANGE YOUR THINKING
CHANGE YOUR LIFE
So try to stay positive ,it may take a while to settle in
but we will all get there  (eventually)

THE BEGINNING

Well here we are,
a new start, at the age of almost 41,
I have decided that I needed to change my career.

After being in the retail world for the last 26 years, I think enough is enough, after a rough year of being unhappy and feeling out of sorts  with my life.
I decided that the time is right
The decision was made and believe me there was a lot of second guessing, so I enrolled into Tafe. I enrolled into Cert 3 in Business, because as you all know, you need a Certificate these days to get a foot in the door to most jobs.
      I got accepted

So off I go back to school. Yay (I think)

My first day was a real eye opener, Every thing has changed since I was at School (yes I know,I am sounding old ) we did everything on paper.

Hello Welcome to the age of modern technology.
Believe me when I say I am by no means computer illiterate but I find myself having to really think about how to do things.
My first day here was a real nerve racking event, it has been 26 years since I was in school..........................but after meeting my class mates and lecturers the day progressed smoothly.
After coming straight from the work force and not doing Cert 2  before this class I found that I needed to do a lot of revision, I have set aside the afternoon and Friday to do all catch-up for that.
Week 1 over and guess what
I SURVIVED

And here I am in the second week and I am starting to feel a bit more comfortable.
